Make your own Angry Birds Hatchlings

We got a chance to see the new Angry Birds 2 movie, and my kids absolutely loved it! Their favorite part of the movie was the adorable little “hatchlings,” so I thought I’d make a set of hatchlings, and show you how to make your own!

As a mom, I really enjoyed the messages within the movie. Working together. First impressions aren’t everything. And finding creative uses for things (you’ll understand that one after watching the movie!). My kids thought it was a funny story that kept them entertained. And they really, really loved the side-story that was going on with the hatchlings.

If you’d like to make your own Angry Birds Hatchlings, you’ll need:

4 skeins of embroidery floss in each color
googly eyes (I used eyelash eyes for the pink hatchling)
hot glue
yellow/orange construction paper
scissors
pom pom maker

Open up the pom pom maker and start wrapping the floss around one side.

You’ll want to use two skeins per side, for a total of 4 skeins per pom pom.

Trim off about 10 inches from the last skein to save for tying up your pom pom.

With sharp scissors, cut along the groove to create the fluff.

Tie the 10 inches that you kept aside along the center. This is super important as it is this part that keeps all the threads together. Make your knot TIGHT.

Once it is all tied up, you can pull the pom pom maker apart.

Fluff up the pom pom and trim any stray pieces that are too long.

Glue on the eyes.

Cut a beak and feet, and glue into place.

Repeat this process, making two more hatchlings if you would like the trio. However, you can make as many adorable little hatchlings as you like!

And be sure to check out the new Angry Birds 2 movie!
