Craft Lightning Week is here!

Yay! It is time for another week of Craft Lightning! If you haven’t joined in on Craft Lightning in the past, let me give you the scoop. My crafty buddy Angie from The Country Chic Cottage and I challenge ourselves to craft in 15 minutes or less. We whip up 5 of these quick crafts and share them with you over the course of a week – called Craft Lightning week.

Then we challenge our crafty blogging friends to join us. We have them share their quick crafting projects on their blogs, and then Angie and I do a daily roundup of the Craft Lightning projects from all of our crafty friends.

We take it one step further and ask YOU to join in as well! We have a Craft Lightning linky (find it at the bottom of this post) where we ask you to link up your old or new quick crafting projects to share. Sharing in the linky might mean that Angie or I might feature you sometime in the future – and it guarantees that you’ll be sharing your fast crafting with other like-minded quick crafters!

We hope you’ll join us all week as we share ways that you can craft in 15 minutes or less!

DIY Nunchucks Made from a Pool Noodle

Give a pre-teen boy anything… and he’ll manage to make a weapon out of it. I grew up with three brothers, so I have lots of experience in this. Any toy can become a gun, sword, or projectile. That doesn’t take any imagination. But what does take some creativity is making the weapons cute, and relatively harmless. These DIY NunchucksEasy Pool Noodle Nunchucks from Creative Capital B fit the bill on both counts. They look well made, and the foamy outside means that if your children insist on using them on eachother, your chances of needing to make a trip to the ER are significantly less than if you left the kids to their own devices. And, because these pool noodle nunchucks look so awesome, they’ll love playing with them!

You can use them in the pool, at the park, even in the house (as long as there are no breakables around). These DIY nunchucks are sure to make you the coolest mom/dad/auntie/cousin/sister/friend/other relative on the block!

Simple and Quick Bracelet

I love quick and easy jewelry. Love, love, love it. I’m not one who usually picks out my outfit the night before. I get up, shower, head to my closet, and hope that I’ve managed to do enough laundry so that I have enough coordinating clean clothes. Luckily, yoga pants go with everything.

BUT when I do want to dress a little nicer, it is nice to have coordinating jewelry. These simple little bangles are super easy and super quick to make. Even if you’re like me, and don’t pre-plan your outfits, you can have enough time in the morning to whip one up before you head out for the day. As long as the kids haven’t managed to dump out an entire box of cereal all over the table and floor, the clean-up of which takes up all of your jewelry crafting time (true story).

Moral of this story: Put away the cereal box and make cute jewelry… and every day will be so much better!

Water Shooting Target Practice

I love making crafts with my boys and for my boys. That’s why I love this water gun target practice game. Simple to make with supplies that most sports-loving households will have on hand (or that you can buy really inexpensively), I can see my son loving this game! He loves playing with water guns, shooting at just about anything… including other people. Giving him a more appropriate option lets him have fun, and not soak everything in sight! This game is easy enough for him to set up on his own as well!

Etched Glass Quick Craft

With all the fun pre-cut vinyl shapes available, and the cutting machines that cut vinyl – the possibilities are endless! You can etch Dollar Store glassware to make custom glasses for guests at a dinner party – that double as placecards and triple as a personalized favor to take home! There are so many fun things you can do with glass etching cream!

Record Tiered Plate Stand

Looking to add a little whimsy to your next party? Maybe you have a music lover, or someone who loves listening to vinyl. Make a fun display for small cakes and treats using vinyl records. This is such a fun idea! You could use these at a party, or even a wedding. For fun, find records that have favorite songs or are by favorite artists. Different sized records will create a tiered look, whereas using all the same size will give you a little different look. Make sure that your treats aren’t too heavy, and have fun with this great idea!

Stenciled Shell Quote Plate

When DecoArt offered to send me their glass paints, I was super excited. These paints are perfect for painting on glass and ceramics – and after you bake them, they are dishwasher safe! The paints themselves aren’t food-safe, though. So use them on chargers, the outside of glassware, the bottom of plates… but never on a surface that food or your lips will be touching. The paints are non-toxic, but you want to stay safe, right?

This decorative plate was super easy to make with the DecoArt Glass paint line. There are different colors and finishes of paint as well as paint pens. The paint pens are probably my favorite. You can use them to make this decorative plate.

supplies for glass paint plateTo make your own decorative plate, you’ll need:
A plain plate (I got one with decorative edges)
DecoArt Glass Paint
DecoArt Glass Paint Marker
DecoArt Glass Paint Stencil
Rubbing Alcohol
Paper Towels
Soft Paintbrush

Start by cleaning your surface with the rubbing alcohol. After it dries, place the stencil. This will help you line up your lettering. Use the glass paint pen to write your quote.

With the soft bristled paintbrush, paint in the stencil. Remove the stencil while the paint is still wet.

If you make any mistakes, just wipe them away with the alcohol and start over. Once you’re happy, follow the instructions on the bottle to cure the paint and make it dishwasher-safe.

I teamed up with a group of bloggers to give away all that you need to make your own glass paint masterpieces!  Scroll down to see all of their fabulous projects and to enter this great giveaway!
