Lego Batman Movie Craft – DIY Bat Signal

This DIY Bat Signal is the perfect craft for any fan of the Lego Batman Movie! Make this DIY Bat Signal to hang in your room. Make your own Bat Signal as a decoration for your Lego Batman Movie Party. Or if you have some creative party-goers, use this Bat Signal as the perfect Lego Batman Movie Craft that they can take home after the party.

And if you’re a fan of the Lego Batman Movie, head to Legoland during Lego Batman Movie Days, we went this past weekend to celebrate the release of the new Lego Batman Movie. Lego Batman Movie Days will be going on next weekend as well… make your own Batmobile and race it on the test track, meet Lego Batman, find all the villains that have taken over Miniland, and help build some Batman Legos!

In the meantime, you’ll want to make your own Lego Bat Signal. Here is what you’ll need:

Hot Glue Gun
Battery-operated LED lights (similar: {affiliate link} here)
Black Scrapbooking paper
Yellow Plastic (a bag from the LEGO store works great!)

Cut out your black paper. You can use these paper templates. Or if you have a cutting machine you can use this Silhouette file, this eClips2 File, or this SVG file for all other machines.

If using the cut files, your side pieces will be scored every 1/4″ already,. If you’re using templates, score the side pieces every 1/4″ to help it curve .

With the hot glue gun, glue the side piece all the way around the back.

Cut a hole in the back for the switch on your battery pack.

Glue the battery pack to the back. Then coil the lights round and round. You can secure the lights with glue as needed.

Glue the circle to a piece of the yellow bag. Glue the Lego Bat shape on top, centering it on the circle.

Trim the plastic around the circle. Glue on top of the base.It is okay if glue seeps out. You can trim it away with a craft knife later.

Your Lego Batman Movie Bat Signal is complete! Switch on the lights and call the Bat Man!

Watercolor Flowers

Spring is on the way! And I’m ready for all the color and joy that flowers bring. So, instead of waiting for the flowers to grow on their own, I’m making some myself! These watercolor flowers are simple to make, and the watercolor technique makes each of the watercolor flowers one turn out as unique as if it had grown in the garden.

I love this watercolor technique. It isn’t true watercolor, since we’re using alcohol inks and alcohol (not water). The alcohol will keep the color from bleeding later. And it is really hard to go wrong. Select complimentary colors, let them all mix together, and you’ll get a beautiful surprise each time you make these flowers. And though I used pink, you can pick any set of colors that goes with your decor. These WAtercolor Flowers would look equally awesome in yellows, blues, or oranges.

To make the watercolor flowers, you’ll need:

Thermoweb Mixed Media Sheets
Floral Wire
Beads
Eileen Hull Twist and Style Tool
Eileen Hull Flower Die
Alcohol-based markers
Paintbrush
Rubbing Alcohol
Sizzix Die Cut Machine
Hot Glue

Color on the mixed media sheets with the alcohol markers. Don’t worry about full coverage – get patches of color all over, and overlapping.

Using Rubbing Alcohol, drip onto the mixed media paper, making the watercolor look.

Now allow the sheet to dry. This won’t take long, the alcohol dries quickly! Use the die cutting machine to cut the flowers.

Use the twist and style tool, as instructed on the package, with a bead. This makes the stem.

Stack on the flower pieces. Glue in place with a dab of hot glue. Repeat to make a whole bouquet of watercolor flowers.

DIY Candy Hearts

Making your own Candy Hearts is a sweet way to Celebrate Valentine’s Day! It is so easy to make your own DIY candy hearts, and then box them up in little boxes to pass out to friends! You can add extracts to your hearts when you make them to give them a custom flavor… maybe you like peppermint, almond, lemon, or anise… each adds its own special touch to the holiday!

This project is part of Craft Lighting Holiday. Each day this week I’ve been sharing a fun and fast Valentine’s Day craft that can be done in 15 minutes or less. And my co-hosts Angie from the Country Chic Cottage and Laura from Handmade Home have been sharing in the fun! We’ve also asked our crafty friends to join in… check out all their great projects below!

To make the candy heart boxes, you’ll need:
Paper
Sizzix Thinlets Mini Recipe Card Box (from the Where Women Cook Collection)
Sizzix Thinlits Plus Die Set – Box, Matchbox (optional – for the lattice cut-out)
Sizzix Die-Cut machine and baseplates
Hot glue

Candy hearts (check out the video below on how to make them)

Cut out the Mini Recipe Card Box shape:

If you like, cut out the lattice.

Glue together using hot glue.

Add candy hearts, and you’re done!

Your friends won’t believe you made them yourself!

Conversation Heart Hoop Art

If it is possible to have Valentine’s Day without Conversation Heart Candies, I don’t want to know about it. Since I was young, these chalky, flavorless sweets with their kitschy phrases are quintessential Valentine’s treats. When I was younger, I loved eating them. Now I marvel at them, and love creating Conversation Heart Crafts, like this Conversation Heart Hoop Art. This project is part of Craft Lightning Week. All week long I’m sharing a fast, 15 minute craft you can make for Valentine’s Day. And I’m not alone! My Friend Angie from The Country Chic Cottage is co-hosting with me again, and we got Laura from Make Life Lovely to join us as our guest co-host this week! Check out their projects, and the projects from lots of our other friends down at the bottom of this page.

To stitch up your own conversation heart hoop art, you’ll need:

Small wooden hoops
Colored cotton fabrics
Red Embroidery Floss
Scissors
Water Soluble Marker
Water & Paintbrush

I’ll be detailing the steps below, but you can also watch this quick video that will take you through the steps of making your Conversation Heart Hoop Art.

Start by cutting a piece of fabric a little larger than your hoop, and then hooping your fabric.

Write on the text using the water soluble marker.

Cut a length of embroidery floss about as long as your arm. Split it so that you’re only using three threads.

Thread your needle, and start stitching!

After stitching, trim away the excess fabric around the hoop. If you like, add glue to the edge of the fabric where it meets the hoop. This will make it more durable.

Use a paintbrush and water to wash away the blue lines.

Wait for the water to dry (or use a hair dryer if you’re impatient). While you’re waiting, stitch up another one!

Valentine’s Chocolate Wrapper

If you’re looking for a Valentine Chocolate Wrapper, than this is perfect for you! This Valentine’s Chocolate wrapper is made to re-wrap a Christmas Chocolate bar. Which is perfect because these Christmas Chocolate bars are still perfectly good in February, and are on sale every January! Stock up on these chocolate bars, and you’ll have a fabulous Valentine’s Day gift at a fraction of the retail cost! All you have to do is print out this Valentine Chocolate Wrapper to re-wrap the chocolate with.

To make this Valentine’s Chocolate, you’ll need:
Russel Stover Santa Chocolate
Valentine’s Chocolate Printable
Scissors
Double-Sided Tape

note: If you can’t find these Santa Chocolates, check out my Valentine’s Chocolate Bar craft instead.

Cut out the printed shape.

Remove the paper wrapper from the chocolate (leave on the foil). Then wrap in the new paper.

Tape flap down with double-sided tape. Your Christmas chocolate has been converted to Valentine’s Chocolate!

I made it a two dollar bill because Valentine’s Day isn’t about big sums of money – it is about two people getting together. Which is also why I left the center of the wrapper blank. You can add a picture of you and your sweetie, write in your names, or do anything you like to make this chocolate bar extra special for the two of you.

Magnetic Photo Frames

My kids are obsessed with my Instax Camera. They love taking photos of themselves, me, our animals, their legos… anything they can capture in the camera frame. As soon as they take the photo, they get to watch it appear like magic on the photo paper. I love finding fun ways to display their photos, like this Instax Cartridge Frame, and these fun Magnetic Photo Frames that are perfect for a Valentine’s Display!

These magnetic photo frames are part of Craft Lightning Valentine’s Day. All week long my crafty co-hosts and I are sharing fast and fun Valentine’s crafts that can be whipped up in 30 minutes or less. We’ve asked our crafty friends from around the internet to join in. Check out all their ideas at the bottom of this post.

Supplies:
Wood Frame (mine were from Michael’s in a “Fun in a Jar Wood Stamps”, you can find similar on Etsy here, here, or here, and Amazon [affiliate link] here). If you want the exact same, you might want to contact a laser cutter on Etsy to make you identical frames.Paint
Paint brushes
Decorations – rhinestones, ribbon, flowers, etc.
Glue
ProMag Magnet Tape
Scissors

Measure out the right amount of magnet tape, cut. Cut into one wider and one more narrow strip, and adhere to top and bottom of the wooden frame.

Paint frames.

Glue on decorative bits.

Your magnets are complete!

Valentine’s Lock and Key Earrings

Making Jewelry for Valentine’s Day is a simple and inexpensive gift for someone you love, or a fast and fun way to whip up a special accessory for yourself! These lock and key earrings are great for Valentine’s Day, either to wear yourself or give as a gift.

These earrings are part of Craft Lightning Week. All week long, my crafty co-hosts and I are sharing fast and fun crafts that you can make to share the love… in 15 minutes or less! And we’ve invited our craftiest friends from around the internet to share their fast Valentine’s crafts as well. Check out the bottom of this post for their fast Valentine craft ideas.

To make the lock and key earrings, you’ll need:
Key Charms
Lock Charms
2 earring wires
2 head pins
2 red beads
2 small crystals
Jewelry Pliers (2 pair – you’ll need 1 round nosed, and 1 with wire cutters, or a separate pair of wire cutters)

Grab 1 earring wire, 1 lock charm, and 1 key charm.

Open up the jump ring, and put them together.

Grab a head pin, red bead, and crystal.

Put crystal and red bead on head pin. Bend head pin over round-nosed pliers.

String onto the loop on the bottom of the lock charm. Wrap wire around itself two times.

Clip the excess wire off the head pin, and tuck the end out of the way with pliers. One earring is complete!

Repeat steps for the second earring.

Jingle Bell Bracelet

This Jingle Bell Bracelet is a super simple sewing project that kids will love to make and wear! Stitch up the band, add on some bells, and you have a fun bracelet that jingles as you move.

This project is part of Craft Lightning Week. All week long I’m sharing a Holiday craft that can be done in 15 minutes or less. And I’ve teamed up with co-hosts Vanessa from Tried and True and Angie from The Country Chic Cottage to do it! Plus, we’ve rounded up our craftiest friends from around the internet to join in. Scll down to the bottom of this page to check out all their fast and fun 15 minute holiday craft ideas.

To make your Jingle Bell Bracelet, you’ll need:
Fabric
Medium-weight Interfacing
Bells
Hook and Loop Tape (like Velcro Brand)
Needle and Thread
Sewing Machine

Cut one 5″ x 15″ strips from your fabric, and one 4.5″ x 15″ strip from your interfacing. Fuse the interfacing to the wrong side of the fabric, centering so there is 1/4″ of fabric exposed on each side. Fold the fabric in half, right sides together, then stitch down the long side using 1/4″ seam allowance.

Turn the fabric tube right -side out. Press flat.

Trim so that it is about 5″ longer than the circumference of your child’s wrist (or your wrist, if you’ll be wearing it!

Tuck in the ends.

Press. Stitch all the way around.

Stitch Velcro in place on one end.

Try on the bracelet, not too tight, and mark where the other end of the hook and loop tape needs to go. Trim to length. Stitch it in place.

Hand-stitch the bells around the outside of the bracelet.

Your bracelet is complete!

Baby’s First Christmas Ornament

This year brought with it two new nieces. I thought it would be fun to give them each a special ornament for their first Christmas. Making a special ornament doesn’t have to be difficult, complicated, or requir of fancy materials… I made each of these cute ornaments in about 10 minutes, and I’ll show you how!

To make the Baby’s First Christmas Ornament, you’ll need:

Clear Glass Ball Ornament
Lace
Ribbon
Hot Glue
Paint Pen
Baby Shoe Stickers from Little B

Start by hot gluing the lace around the ornament.

Tie ribbon around the top, glue in place.

Use the paint pen to add the baby’s name and date, and your ornament is done!
