Smashed Flower Art

I’ve been trying to get my son more interested in the garden. He loves watering the plants, and he can’t wait to pick some veggies. In the meantime, I think I’ll try some smashed flower art with him. Picking flowers, and pounding them with his hands, a rock, or a mallet is probably one of the best ways a boy can spend an afternoon with his mom, don’t you think? And then framing the artwork so that he can admire it, know that HE made it, and that it is beautiful… I think that has meaning as well.

I think I’ll have a blast, too! No matter how old you are, I don’t think you’re ever too old to have fun smashing the guts out of flowers on paper.

Baby Shower Diaper Wreath

diaper wreath

I have thrown a LOT of baby showers. I’ve co-hosted, hosted, and gone to so many. And I love to come up with original ideas for each. Every shower I throw has a fun theme, games that are selected with the mom-to-be in mind, and decor that matches the theme.

Recently, I hosted a diaper party for White Cloud Diapers. I was able to invite a bunch of bloggers to my home to talk about this great diaper brand. Since many of them had never been to my house, I wanted to put a diaper wreath on the door so that they knew they were at the right place. This diaper wreath is super easy to make, and would be a great decor item for any baby shower. And when the shower is over, the diapers can be removed and used!

If you want to make a diaper wreath, here is what you need:

Large Styrofoam wreath base
About 15 diapers (depending on size – I used White Cloud Size 3)
Tulle or wide ribbon

Start by attaching the diapers to the wreath. You want to open up each diaper, and fold the front in and around the diaper.

wrap each diaper on

Then fold the top over, and secure the tabs to the back of the diaper, on the back of the wreath.

I chose to have my diapers alternate which way they faced, but you could have all your diapers face towards the center of the wreath, or the outside of the wreath, depending on the look you are going for.

Once you have diapers all the way around, take your tulle or wide ribbon and wrap it between the diapers for a decorative look.

All that is left is to hang your wreath!

If you are throwing a diaper-themed baby shower, another fun idea is to make a bathtub centerpiece. Just pile your diapers into a baby tub and tie a bow. I added a few little duckies for extra fun!

Juce Can Lid Magnets

Juice can lids are such a great craft supply. They were a staple in my craft closet growing up. Durable, nice in size, and easy to come by, the circular metal lids were used on lots of different craft projects. I recently used juice can lids in my recycled can lid garland. My son loved that garland so much that he immediately confiscated it for his own room!

These juice can lid magnets are another simple and easy use for juice can lids. Simple to make, but with so many options. The large face of the juice can lid can be decorated in so many ways – with photos, colorful papers, paints… with a good-sized surface, the options are endless!

Super Fast Perler Bead Earrings

This weekend I’m at a blog conference, and I’m getting to meet bloggers that I love in person. It is awesome. One of the fantastic gals that I met today is Amy from Maker Mama. She made these awesome perler bead earrings. Don’t you just LOVE them? Super fast, super simple, and super cute! My kind of craft! Both my son and I love perler beads. I could see myself making these on my own… or doing this craft with my son so that he could see mommy wearing something that he helped make! How fun is that!?

Simple Ruched Flower

I’m in love with all the fun fabric flowers found on Pinterest. But many of them look so tedious. The twisting, gluing, and adjusting needed to make a fabric flower that looks “perfectly imperfect”, as if each piece happened to fall into place, instead of causing you to agonize over each drop of glue…

That’s why I was thrilled to find this super simple ruched flower tutorial. Simple to make, easy to repeat, and no twisting, twisting, twisting to try to get everything just right!
