Foiled Hexie Quote Notebooks

I’m at the Craft and Hobby Association Tradeshow this weekend, getting to hang out with others in the crafting industry, and checking out new products that are coming out on the market. While there, I get to do demonstrations and show attendees how to make crafts. We call these “Make and Takes”. Today I’m in the Prime Publishing booth, sharing this fun Make and Take – a foiled hexie quote notebook. It shows off products from two of the sponsors (and two brands I love), Thermoweb and Sizzix. Plus, they’re pretty!

Hexie Quote Notebooks

These notebooks would make a great gift, party favor, or craft for a girl’s craft night. You don’t need a lot of supplies, and they come together very quickly. With the prep I’m doing for show attendees, a foiled hexie quote notebook takes about 5 minutes to make. You’ll need:

Sizzix die-cut machine with mats
Steel-rule hexagon die for Sizzix machine
Thermoweb Decofoils in assorted colors
Stapler
Quotes printed with a laser printer on black cardstock
if you’re not using foil, you can use these red quotes instead
Copy paper
Laminator

supplies for notebook

Rough- cut the quotes, then center on the die and cut.

Layer a sheet of copy paper (folded in half), the hexagon, and a piece of foil.

Close the folded copy paper, and feed through a HOT laminator.

Ground Hog’s Day Game

Ground Hog’s Day is one of the fun American Traditions I love to teach my kids about. While we won’t be heading out to Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney to see the groundhog come out of hiding, we’ll find other ways to enjoy this fun tradition… like this easy-to-make “Spring is Coming” Groundhog’s Day Game! This printable board game can be printed and cut-out for one-time use… or you can use a DVD case to keep it put together for next year!

Groundhog Day Board Game - Spring is Coming! Fits into a standard-size DVD case for easy storage!

To make the game you’ll need:
Groundhog Day Board Game Pieces printed onto cardstock
DVD Case
Groundhog Day Board Game DVD Case Cover printed onto regular paper
Scissors
Brad (paper fastener)
Hot Glue or double-stick tape
Craft Knife

supplies for groundhog day game

Cut the cover to fit, and tuck into the case, on the outside, between the plastic and the case itself.

cut paper to fit

Cut out the pieces. Fold the game pieces, and secure the flap at the top with hot glue or double-stick tape.

fold and glue

Cut out the circle and arrow for spinner. Poke a hole with a craft knife for the brad to go through. You will need to poke a hole in the DVD case as well.

make holes

Secure all the pieces in place, make sure the brad is loose enough to allow the arrow to spin, and enjoy your game!

play groundhog game

The game is simple. All players begin at start. They take turns spinning, and move the number of spaces indicated. If they land on a space with text, they follow those instructions. My 3 year old already loves this game, and we have played it together several times!

Valentine Printables

I love Valentine’s Day. You can make it as fancy, or as simple as you want. Which is why I love Valentine’s Printables. Like my printable classroom valentines. And I absolutely fell in love with these printable Valentine’s ideas from Wayfair.

Popsicle Stick Hearts

When I think “Popsicle Stick Hearts”, I think of a preschooler’s craft. Messy and covered in glitter… and only slightly resembling a heart. These popsicle stick hearts made by Amy over at Bead Bash are not at all a kid craft – they are simple and elegant, and there isn’t a fleck of glitter in sight! Click the link to see how she puts them together.

You’ll want to pin this to your Valentine’s Day Crafts board – but be sure to pin from the original source.

BB8 Craft – Star Wars Tin

As Star Wars fans, we’re also big BB8 fans around here. The second my kids saw BB8 in the Star Wars movie trailers, they were hooked. When I saw this circular tin, I knew it would be perfect for a BB8 craft. The tin is simple to paint, and while it isn’t a complete BB8, this BB8 inspired tin is perfect for putting a snack in a Star Wars lunch box, or holding little toys for the Star Wars fans in your home.

Star Wars BB8 Inspired Tin - Fast to make and super cute - great for any Star Wars fan!

To make this BB8 Craft, you’ll need:

Chocolate tin (I found this one at Trader Joe’s, at the checkout stand)
Multi-surface paints in White and Orange
Paintbrush
Black permanent marker

supplies for BB8 Tin

First step is to empty the tin. I did this by eating the chocolates, of course! Once your tin is empty, paint it white, but make sure to leave the window portion unpainted.

paint white

Allow to dry. Paint the inner ring on the lid orange. Then add in the orange protrusions into the window, four of them.

paint on inner ring

Allow to dry completely.

painted tin

Once the paint is completely dry, you can paint on the lines with the marker. But you want the paint to be 100% dry – moist paint will stick to the marker, and make this process very difficult! But on dry paint, this part is easy.

draw details

Add the lines down the sides as well.

draw in lines

Then your BB8 craft is done – this Star Wars inspired tin was as easy to make as the chocolates inside were delicious!
