Printable Birthday Magnets

All week long I’ve been sharing fun project ideas that you can make using the free birthday printables from Jen Goode at 100 Directions. Each day I’ve been sharing one of my own ideas, as well as ideas shared by other bloggers. Today I’m sharing some fun magnets made with the birthday printables, and Britni from Play.Party.Pin is sharing some ideas for her husband’s 30th Birthday Party that she made using the printable. I’ll share more of her project at the end of the post.

My project today is super easy, once you realize that printables can be printed on more than just paper. Earlier this week I made a birthday onesie by printing on a fusible transfer sheet. Today’s project is just as simple. I printed right onto a magnet sheet designed for inkjet printers, and cut out the magnets.

I used ProMAG Inkjet Printable Magnetic Sheets, but I’ve also used Avery Magnet Sheets in the past as well. Whatever you have handy. Just make sure to let the ink dry completely so that you don’t smudge it.

Once you’ve printed it out, you can cut it using regular scissors.

cut magnet pieces

I’m pretty sure that it was unintentional, but Jen created these pieces the perfect size for framing a standard photo!

You can add other parts from the printable as well.

Printable Birthday Refrigerator Magnets

You can use these magnets to decorate the fridge, to decorate a metal locker for a friend’s birthday, to decorate a magnetic dry-erase board at the front of a class, to attach to a metal door or metal cubicle wall… there are so many ways you can use these fun birthday printables once you’ve turned them into magnets!

Printable Paper Ribbon

All week long I’m sharing crafty projects made with the Free Birthday Printable that Jen Goode from 100 Directions made. There are three different awesome pages, and I love them all! She packed a ton of different designs in! So, I invited some bloggy buddies to come up with their own ideas for crafting with these great birthday printables. Today Heidi from Happiness is Homemade and Jennifer from Hydrangea Hippo are crafting up some birthday goodies! I’ll share their projects at the end of this post.

On Monday I made a little Altoids Box Gift Tin that is great for gifting jewelry. Today I thought I’d use the paper ribbon like real ribbon to wrap up a gift. I started with a wrapped gift wrapped in a solid color of wrapping paper, but a gift wrapped in kraft paper or plain white paper would also look awesome.

Printable Paper Ribbon Birthday Wrapping

Print off the birthday printable on regular white paper.

wrapped gift and printable

Cut out the ribbons (I used 2 of the wide ribbons) and one of the circles from the other sheet.

cut paper ribbons

You can just use two of the ribbons, back to back, and loop them…

using just two ribbon pieces

I wanted more color, so I stacked four of the paper ribbons.

layer ribbon papers

I looped them. At this point you can use a brad or a staple to hold them in place, but I didn’t have a brad or a stapler handy, so I just taped them down.

Then I rolled up a small piece of tape to put on the cupcake circle.

roll tape onto back of cupcake

I put that in the center, and my gift was all done!

This simple wrapped package looks great with the Altoids tin from Monday that holds the Happy necklace that I shared yesterday.

Heidi from Happiness is Homemade used these same printables to dress up cupcakes – super cute and super simple!

And Jen from Hydrangea Hippo made a fun scrapbook page using the printables – a great way to use party decor in your after-party memory making!

Printable Birthday Jewelry

I love printables! The challenge is – what do you do with them? So all week long, I’m teaming up with some bloggers to come up with great ideas for using this Free Birthday Printables set, designed by Jen Goode from 100 Directions, to make all kinds of crafty projects! At the end of the post I’ll share with you Birthday Muffins by Splendid Design, A Birthday in a Box by Tried and True, and an awesome Birthday Box by Organize and Decorate Everything.

Today, I’m making some jewelry using these printables! That’s right… printable birthday jewelry! Though, I think the happy pennant necklace could be worn all the time. But it is especially festive for Birthdays.

Necklaces made from printables

Making these necklaces is super simple. I used resin on the printables – if you’ve never used resin before, don’t worry! This technique is super simple, and the kit has everything you need to be successful!

To make the birthday jewelry, you need the following supplies. I added some affiliate links to make purchase easy, any purchases you make help to support this site.

Little Windows Starter Kit (includes resin, mixing supplies, and little drill – read my review of the Little Windows Resin over at Craft Test Dummies)
FREE Birthday Printable
Scissors
Nail File
Jump Rings
Jewelry Pliers
Fine Cable Chain
Lobster Clasp

Start with your printable. You’ll want to cut out all the pennants. I wanted my necklace a little smaller, so I printed it to “landscape” so that the triangles would be just a little smaller.

part of printable used for happy necklace

Place the pennants on the doming tray that comes in the kit. Let the resin set up for an additional 5-10 minutes, then follow the instructions to pour a little bit of resin onto the pennants.

little windows jewelry kit

Use the wand to make sure that the resin gets to all the edges. I decided to try a couple different designs. The circle ended up curling (I should have printed it on cardstock), but the large pennant worked well.

allow resin to set overnight

Let the resin set overnight – about 12 hours, according to the instructions. If you have any bumps on the back of your piece, use a nail file to sand them away.

back of jewelry

Use the small drill that comes in the kit to drill a hole on each side of each pennant.

drill holes

I decided to make a necklace with the large pennant, so I drilled holes in there as well. Make sure that you’re drilling on a surface you don’t mind drilling into – like a cutting mat, cutting board, or piece of cardboard.

drill large pendant

Add jump rings between each segment.

connect with jumprings

Then attach the chain on each side, with a lobster clasp at the back. The resin gives the paper a great translucent look that I just love!

If you’re giving the necklace as a gift, you can make an Altoids Tin gift box using the same printables set!

Also using these printables, you can make a great birthday box – Leanne from Organize and Decorate Everything uses the printables to spiff up an ordinary container – making it super fun for a birthday boy or girl of any age!

Birthday in a Box by Organize and Decorate Everything

Another great Birthday in a Box idea comes from Vanessa at Tried and True. She uses the printables to decorate the inside of the box! How fun is that?

Why wait until dessert to celebrate a birthday! Wake up to some cute birthday muffins, like these birthday muffins from Megan at Splendid Design!

Birthday Onesie

Birthday Onesie

I’m celebrating birthdays this week with free birthday printables by Jen Goode over at 100 Directions! She designed these bright, colorful printables – and they’re perfect for crafting! So I invited my crafty friends to play along and create with these fun birthday printables. You can go check out yesterday’s birthday crafts, and after I share this fun birthday onesie, I’ll be showing you the great teen birthday banner that Bits of everything created, and the adorable decorated cupcake that Jen Goode whipped up!

First, I’ll show you my simple birthday onesie. This project is so fast and easy, you won’t believe how simple it comes together! And there is practically no mess! No paint to open, paintbrushes to wash, or glittery bits that get all over the place. Fast to make and fast to put away – my ideal craft.

To make the birthday onesie you need:
Baby Onesies (I went with an 18-months size for a 1st birthday party)
Avery T-shirt Transfers for Inkjet Printers
Printer
Scissors
Hot Iron

Start by laying out your onesie. It is best if it is pre-washed, but follow the instructions on your iron on paper. You’ll want to print out the printable onto the printable iron-on paper. VERY IMPORTANT: If you are using any words, make sure you are printing the sheet in REVERSE. Otherwise, once you iron them on, the words will be backwards.

print on fusible transfer paper in reverse

Cut out the pieces you want to use, and lay them on the front of the onesie.

place pieces

Follow the manufacturer instructions to fuse them in place, then peel away the paper backing.

That’s it! Super simple, right?

Make sure to check out this great teen banner idea (I LOVE the decorated locker!).

Altoids Tin Gift Box Tutorial

This week is Birthday Week here at 30 Minute Crafts! I’ve teamed up with Jen Goode from 100 Directions, and she’s created a set of awesome birthday printables you can download. Every day this week I’m sharing a different project you can make using these printables. AND I’ve asked some of my crafty friends to join in as well. Today Sara Hoffman used these same printables for a shaved ice party, and Laura Kelly made a fun party place setting. I’ll share more about their projects at the end of this post.

Sometimes, people look at printables and think, “That’s great… but what do I do with it?” All week long, my crafty friends and I hope to inspire you with fun ways to play with these birthday printables. I used them to convert an old Altoids tin into a sweet little gift box! I love it so much, I think I’ll be buying lots and lots more Altoid tins in the future!

Let’s get started! Here is what you need:
Free Birthday Printables
Altoids
Paintbrush
White and blue DecoArt Multi Surface Paint
Spouncer
Mod Podge

Start by printing out the printable, I’m using one piece from two different pages.

Altoids Tin Gift Box supplies

Paint the lid of the Altoids tin with two coats of white multisurface paint.

paint altoids tin with two coats of white

Allow the white paint to dry a little, while you cut out the printable pieces. You’ll need one of the ribbons, and one of the circle pieces.

cut out printable pieces

Paint the lid with blue multisurface paint.

paint blue

Allow the paint to dry just a little bit, then tap it with a spouncer to give it a nice texture. This will also pull off a little of the blue, exposing some of the white underneath, for a more worn look.

spounce the top and sides

Allow the paint to dry until tacky, then cut the ribbon piece to length and tack into place by setting down on the damp paint.

trim and paste

Add the circle part of the birthday printable.

Coat with a generous layer of Mod Podge.

Allow to dry, and you are all done!

Later this week, I’ll share with you a gift you can make using this same printable, that you can fit into this gift box. Here is a little hint…

Duck Tape Bangle Bracelets

I’m off to a conference later this week, and one night is an 80’s themed party sponsored by Duck Tape! To get into the mood, I thought I’d whip up an armful of fun Duck Tape bangle bracelets!

duck tape bangle bracelets

These are easy to make! I started with some different patterned Duck Tape and some plain bangles. These actually weren’t bangles – they were used to hang scarves, and I repurposed them!

supplies for bangle

I measured the circumference of my bangle, then cut strips of Duck Tape a little longer. Each strip was cut in half lengthwise. I wrapped half a strip of Duck Tape around the bangle.

Then carefully curled in one side.

tape in second side

Then taped in the other side.

And that was it! Finished Bangle!

Wine Cork Earrings

In case you missed that title – wine cork earrings. That’s right. Earrings made out of wine corks. A little embellishment and WHAM – adorable earrings and an excuse to open another bottle of your favorite vintage. Because if there is anything a girl needs, it is more wine… and more earrings. AmIrite? I’ll say that the only downside to these adorable wine cork earrings is the need for crochet. So, I now have a reason to learn. More wine, please!
