Shamrock Necklace

As an adult, wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day can get tricky. Not all of us have green in our closets. It isn’t like it was when we were kids where our closets were rainbows of color. As an adult, I have one green shirt that isn’t holiday-oriented. And if I’ve worn it recently, it is in the laundry. Having some cute St. Patrick’s Day jewelry that is easy to make and fun to wear keeps me festive on St. Patty’s Day without having to do laundry the night before. And, I can toss this necklace into my purse a few days before, and have it handy when I inevitably forget on the morning of St. Patrick’s Day. An easy, fun, and stylish solution to the decades old OMG-I-have-to-wear-green-on-St-Patrick’s-Day problem.

Wire Wrapped Clover Necklace

To make this wire wrapped clover necklace, you’ll need:

18 or 20 gauge silver wire
26 gauge green wire (permanently colored copper wire)
Jewelry Pliers
Jump Ring
Necklace chain and necklace clasp
supplies for wire wrapped clover necklace

Start by bending the heavy-gauge wire. You’ll make one half of the stem first.

bend wire into shape

Keep bending around to make a clover shape. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Mine certainly isn’t! Clip the stem so the two pieces are the same length. Thread on the jump ring.

shape wire

Start wrapping the green wire around the stem to secure, then criss-cross  over the clover shape. Wrap around the silver wire in places to help secure it. Decide where you want your jump ring to be, and make sure it stays in that spot as you wrap the wire.

wrap wire on the frame

Finish up by wrapping around the stem.

Put on your necklace, and you’re ready to be festive and pinch-proof on St. Patrick’s Day!

Tweedle Beetle Bottle

If you’re a Dr. Seuss fan, you’re familiar with Fox in Socks. And, like my sons, you might giggle when you get to the tweetle beetle bottle puddle paddle battle muddle. They particularly love it when I say it faster and faster… until I mess it up (which is inevitable, and happens after only a few tries). If you’d like to make your own Dr. Seuss Craft, specifically a Fox in Socks craft, this Tweedle Beetle Bottle Puddle Battle Muddle is super simple to make!

Tweedle Beetle Bottle from Dr. Seuss Fox in Socks Book - easy Seuss Craft idea!

You’ll need:
A bottle (we used an individual-size Hubert’s Lemonade)
Rubbing Alcohol and paper towels
Printable Tweedle Beetle Puddle Paddle Battle
Scissors (and optional craft knife)

Cut out the beetles.

Cut as close as you want, I went with as much detail as possible.

Lego Mini Figure Earrings

If you’re looking for fun Lego earrings, these are insanely simple to make. Unlike the Lego Brick Earrings I made before, where you need to drill into the earring and pull wire through the back, these earrings are as easy as opening up a jump ring (and then closing it).

Lego Minifigure Earrings

You’ll need:
Lego Minifigure Keyrings (your choice of characters – I went with Emmet and Wyldstyle).
Jewelry Pliers
Earring Wires
Jump Rings

supplies for lego minifigure earrings

Remove the keyring chain from the minifigure using the pliers. Feel free to completely destroy it as you open it (it is a tough ring!).

open jump ring

Open your jewelry jump ring, thread through the loop on the top of the minifigure’s head, and through the loop at the bottom of the earring wire.

Close the jump ring.

One earring done!

Repeat these steps with the second one, and you’re done!

finished emmet and wyldstyle earrings

Using the keyring minifigures is great because the loop is already attached to the top of the head – but also, these minifigures won’t accidentally come apart as you’re wearing them. There are tons of fun characters to choose from. You can make a matching set (Emmet and Emmet), or you can make a pair like these (Emmet and WyldStyle), or you can make one of each of your favorite characters, and always have different pairing options to choose from!

Speaking of pairing, wear your earrings with your DIY WyldStyle hair streaks for some extra fun!

Hot Glue Gun Bowl

Looking for a simple and easy home decor project? One that is inexpensive and quick to make? These hot glue gun bowls look like a basket or fancy lace – but they’re made from glue! You can check out how Seaman Mom made hers – and while she used regular glue and then painted them, you can consider glitter hot glue or colored glue sticks.

Ladybug Bracelet

I was at the craft store a few weeks ago, browsing the aisles, looking for inspiration. One of my favorite places to be inspired is the bead section. There are always sparkly things looking to become my next fast and easy jewelry project. That’s when I saw these ladybug beads. Oh my goodness! Aren’t these ladybugs the cutest? And I have two nieces who love ladybugs. So, of course, I had to whip up a bracelet (or two)!

Ladybug bracelet is easy to make in just a few minutes, with a few basic jewelry making supplies

Once I had the ladybug beads home, I had to decide how to put it all together. Here are the supplies I used (I’ve added some affiliate links to help you out – these also help pay for this site at no cost to you).

Ladybug Beads (similar here)
Leaf Beads (similar here)
Heart Chain (you can use regular jewelry chain, but heart chain is cute)
Magnetic clasp (easier for little kids to put on/off)
1.5″ Head Pins
Jump Rings
Jewelry Pliers – round nosed and needle-nosed

supplies for ladybug bracelet

Cut your chain to the length you need for the bracelet. Mine are for young girls, so I went with shorter bracelets.

cut chain

Use jump rings to attach the magnetic clasp.

attach magnetic clasp

Use another jump ring to attach the leaf bead.

attach leaf bead

String a bead onto a head pin. Bend over your round-nosed pliers, then pull it off. Slip it onto the chain. Now put it back on the pliers, and wrap the excess around the base. If you have extra, you can snip it off.

wrap around base

Repeat with the second ladybug bead.

add second ladybug

Since I have two ladybug loving nieces, of course I had to make two bracelets!

two ladybug bracelets

If you’re making more than one for children that live in the same household, it is a good idea to differentiate them somehow – like adding a bead with their initial or initials, or adding a bead with their favorite color, or representing their birthstone. That way there aren’t any “it is MINE” mix-ups.

Heart and Rocket Valentine Tee

With Valentine’s Day coming up – all the hearts and flowers – I was looking for something cute for my boys to wear. As a boy mom, I’m always looking for fun ideas that they get excited about. Hearts are fine… but hearts with a rocket? Yes, mom! This, of course, could be a great shirt for a girl, of any age… matchy-matchy mom and son shirts, anyone?

Heart and Rocket Valentine's Tee

Supplies:
Vinyl (or Freezer paper, whatever you have handy)
Red fabric paint (This is Plaid’s new Fabric Ink)
Heart and Rocket Silhouette cut file
Foam Paintbrush
Paper or cardboard

supplies for shirt

Cut the stencil with your Silhouette machine. Tuck a piece of paper or cardboard into the shirt, then apply the vinyl. If you’re using freezer paper instead, iron it in place (shiny side down).

put vinyl on shirt

Use the sponge applicator to apply the fabric ink. It is very thin (which is awesome because it dries fast!), go with lots of thin layers instead of a big gloppy mess, so the ink doesn’t bleed under the stencil. Bleeding hearts is not what we’re going for with this shirt.

apply fabric ink

Apply all the way down.

fill in with fabric ink

Peel back the vinyl stencil, and just wait for it to dry!

peel away vinyl

This one was dry in about 20 minutes. When it is (mostly) dry, you can put a piece of plain paper over the top, and run an iron over it. This will help it dry faster, and also heat-set the ink.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
