Frozen Elements Tee

The sequel to the popular Frozen movie is here with Frozen 2. And if you or someone you know is a fan, they’ll know exactly what these Frozen elements are. And I’ve hand-drawn a cut file for you to add them to a shirt (like I have done here), or add them to anything else you like!

If you haven’t seen the movie yet, I won’t spoil it for you. I was given early access to the film, and loved it. As expected, it had a great story and fun music. Viewers will be reminded to do the “next right thing” and possibly even to think beyond what they have seen themselves for the right answer.

You can make a shirt like this one by getting the free download of this cut file (sign up below). You can then use your digital cutting machine (like a Cricut or Silhouette) to cut it out. If you don’t have a digital cutter, I’ve given you a graphics file so that you can cut the design by hand from freezer paper to make a stencil, or you can place it behind a shirt that you put on a light box to trace it. All kinds of ways to use this fun file!

If you have a digital cutting machine, here is what you do:

  1. Download the file (below) then import it into your software.

2. Cut the file onto vinyl. Note that if you’re using heat transfer vinyl you’ll need to mirror the image.

3. Weed the negative space from the vinyl.

4. Following the manufacturer instructions, heat set the vinyl on your shirt using a Heat Press, EasyPress, or Iron.

5. Allow to cool, then remove the carrier sheet.

The file is free!

Make your own Angry Birds Hatchlings

We got a chance to see the new Angry Birds 2 movie, and my kids absolutely loved it! Their favorite part of the movie was the adorable little “hatchlings,” so I thought I’d make a set of hatchlings, and show you how to make your own!

As a mom, I really enjoyed the messages within the movie. Working together. First impressions aren’t everything. And finding creative uses for things (you’ll understand that one after watching the movie!). My kids thought it was a funny story that kept them entertained. And they really, really loved the side-story that was going on with the hatchlings.

If you’d like to make your own Angry Birds Hatchlings, you’ll need:

4 skeins of embroidery floss in each color
googly eyes (I used eyelash eyes for the pink hatchling)
hot glue
yellow/orange construction paper
scissors
pom pom maker

Open up the pom pom maker and start wrapping the floss around one side.

You’ll want to use two skeins per side, for a total of 4 skeins per pom pom.

Trim off about 10 inches from the last skein to save for tying up your pom pom.

With sharp scissors, cut along the groove to create the fluff.

Tie the 10 inches that you kept aside along the center. This is super important as it is this part that keeps all the threads together. Make your knot TIGHT.

Once it is all tied up, you can pull the pom pom maker apart.

Fluff up the pom pom and trim any stray pieces that are too long.

Glue on the eyes.

Cut a beak and feet, and glue into place.

Repeat this process, making two more hatchlings if you would like the trio. However, you can make as many adorable little hatchlings as you like!

And be sure to check out the new Angry Birds 2 movie!

Mandala Dot Rocks

If you’ve been wanting to get into rock painting, but don’t have any painting or drawing skills, then this is the perfect technique for you! These Mandala Dot Rocks are super simple to make – you don’t even need a paint brush!

This craft is part of Craft Lighting Week. All week long, along with my friends Angie and Carissa, I’ll be sharing a fast and fun 15 minute craft that involves painting rocks! And we’ve invited some of our crafty friends to join in! Be sure to scroll down to check out their projects!

To make these Mandala Dot Rocks, you’ll need:
Rocks
Paint
Small Plate
Toothpicks

Dip the toothpick end into the paint. Then dot the paint onto the rock. You can make large dots or small dots, or vary the size. I like starting with a dot in the center, and then working my way out.

Once you’ve added all your dots, let the paint dry. Then add a layer of varnish to seal the paint in before using the rocks outdoors.

Star and Sparkle Earrings

I love jewelry that does double-duty. These Star and Sparkle earrings are perfect for a patriotic party, like the 4th of July. But they’re also great for everyday wear! These earrings are festive and stylish!

These star and sparkle earrings are today’s Craft Lighting Patriotic craft. All week long, my friends Angie from The Country Chic Cottage and Beth from Kingston Crafts are joining in with some of our other crafty friends to share fast and fun Patriotic-themed crafts that can be made in 15 minutes or less! Be sure to scroll all the way down to check out their awesome Patriotic Craft ideas!

To make the star and sparkle earrings, you’ll need:

  • Star chain (found at JoAnn’s)
  • Blue crystals and white beads
  • 4 headpins
  • Jewelry Pliers – round nosed pliers, needle-nosed pliers, and wire cutters.
  • Earring wires

Trim down two lengths of star chain. One slightly shorter than the other. String the beads onto the head pins. You can lay out your earring to get an idea of how it will look.

Time to close up those head pins! This takes a little practice, but is such a fun technique to learn. Once you know how to wrap the tops of these head pins, you’ll be able to make all kinds of jewelry and charms!

Start by wrapping the end of the head pin around the round nosed pliers, giving yourself a little room between the loop and the bead. Before moving to the next step, thread on the end of the star chain.

Wrap the head pin wire around that room that you gave yourself.

Trim the wire flush with the wrappings. Then use pliers to push in the sharp end so that you don’t scratch yourself with the earring when you’re wearing it.

Repeat with the second star chain and beaded headpin. Then open up the loop at the bottom of the earring wire, and string on the star chains.

Close the earring wire, and your earring is complete!

Repeat to make a second earring. You can pair these earrings with the Patriotic Beaded Bracelet I made earlier this week.

No-Flame Sparkler

When I think of Patriotic holidays, the 4th of July always comes to mind. And with it – sparklers! Kids naturally love things that sparkle, and as a mom I naturally worry about safety! That’s where these no-flame sparkers come in!

Thes no-flame sparklers are part of a week-long series I’m co-hosting with my friends Angie from the Country Chic Cottage and Beth from Kingston Crafts. Scroll down to check out their Patriotic inspired crafts that can be made in 15 minutes or less – and those of some of our crafty friends who are joining in for this Craft Lightning Patriotic week!

To make this No-Flame Sparkler, you’ll need:

  • Stick or Dowel
  • Plastic Shopping Bag
  • Small Battery-operated light
  • Hot Glue
  • Sparkle Paint and paintbrush

Cut a star out of a double-layer of plastic bag. I used a small star, but a larger star might be even better!

Hot glue the light to the end of the stick. This was a light I found in the floral section of my craft store. Make sure that when you glue it down, you still have access to the on/off switch.

Glue the light to the bag, and glue all the edges of the two stars together, sandwiching the star in the middle.

Paint with sparkle paint, allow to dry, then get ready for some no-flame sparkle action!

Patriotic Beaded Bracelet

Even if you’ve never made jewelry before, this Patriotic Beaded Bracelet is super simple to make. You just need a few basic supplies, and this bracelet practically makes itself!

This beaded bracelet is part of Craft Lightning – Patriotic. All week long, my friends Angie from the Country Chic Cottage and Beth from Kingston Crafts and I are sharing patriotic inspired crafts that you can make in just 15 minutes or less!

To make your Patriotic Beaded Bracelet, you’ll need:

  • Red and white striped beads (you can alternate red and white beads if you can’t find striped beads)
  • Jewelry Wire
  • Crimping Beads
  • Crimping Pliers
  • Scissors or wire cutters
  • Lobster Clasp and Jump Ring

Start by adding the jump ring. Thread on a crimping bead, then the jump ring, then thread the wire back through the crimping bead. Secure with the crimping pliers … scroll down further for a closer look at how this works.

String on the beads.

When your bracelet is long enough, string on a second crimp bead, then the lobster clasp, and then thread the end of the wire back into the crimp bead.

Tighten everything, then use the crimping pliers. These are special pliers you can use to squeeze shut the crimping bead and secure everything into place.

String the end of the wire into the beads to tuck it away. And your bracelet is complete!

Swing back by all week long for more patriotic inspired crafts that can be made in 15 minutes or less!

Glitter Distressed Wooden Sign

Normally, I’m not a huge fan of glitter. But every now and then I get a crazy idea to start playing with some. I thought making this glitter sign would be a fun way to add a little sparkle. And, it uses stencils!

This project is part of Craft Lightning Decoupage Week. Angie, Stephanie and I are sharing fast and fun crafts made using Decoupage, along with some of our friends! Be sure to scroll down to check out their ideas!

To make this glitter distressed sign, you’ll need:
Wooden sign
Spray on Mod Podge
Stencils
Glitter
Stencil Tape or Painters Tape

Start by taping down your stencils. Then spray well with the Mod Podge. Make sure you shake your Mod Podge well first!

Sprinkle liberally with glitter.

Then spray well with Mod Podge.

Carefully lift off the stencils. It is okay if some falls off – that helps with the distressed look.

Dip your fingers into the wet glitter that is left over on the stencils. Spread this around the edges to add to the glitter distressing.

Once you’re happy with all your glitter, give it another liberal spray of Mod Podge. Allow to dry.

Decoupage Quilt Sign

No need to be an expert quilter to whip up this fun and fast decoupage quilt sign! In fact, there isn’t a stitch in sight (or any fabric)! Using paper, paint, and a wooden sign, you can decoupage yourself a fun quilt sign to hang in your home!

This quilt sign is part of Craft Lightning Decoupage Week! All week long I’m joining in with my friends Angie and Stephanie to share fast and fun decoupage projects that can be made in 15 minutes or less! Be sure to scroll down to check out all their great decoupage craft ideas!

To make your own Decoupage Quilt Sign, you’ll need:
Wooden sign (found at JoAnns)
Scrapbook Paper of your choice
Paper Trimmer
Paint and Paintbrush
Mod Podge Spray (I used Matte)

Start by painting your sign, You don’t need to paint in the spots that will be covered by paper.

While the paint dries, cut your paper pieces. Note that the star points are half-rectangles, and not half-squares. Spray your sign with Mod Podge (make sure to shake the Mod Podge Spray first). Then place the pieces.

Place all the pieces as you want them.

Then spray with a generous coat of Mod Podge and allow to dry.

Once it is all dry, you can hang it up or give it as a gift!
