Bias Tape Flower

If you’ve never used bias tape before, it is a fun little craft supply to play with! It is made with fabric cut on the bias (a 45 degree angle), so it curves really well, because of all the stretch that cutting on the bias gives you. This bias tape flower can be made with any bias tape, and you can switch out the center if you’d like a different look. I’ll show you how to make this one, so you can decide how you’d like to make your own!

bias tape for flowerSupplies:

Double Fold Bias Tape
Coats & Clark All Purpose Thread
Large Spangles or Sequins
Needle
Large Bead
Floral Stems and Floral Tape

Start by threading your needle, and having it handy… when you need it you’ll be glad it is ready and waiting!

Take the bias tape out of the package, and loop into the shape of a petal. Hold in place with your thumb.

create loops from bias tape

Keep making loops, holding the center with your thumb, until you have enough petals. I tried to keep my petals about the same size, but that is up to you! Cut off the extra bias tape.

create all the loop petals

Take your threaded needle, and pierce it through the center of the flower.

stitch through center of flower

Stitch up and down several times through the center. You can make neat, pretty stitches… but they won’t show later, so don’t worry if they are perfect. Then stitch several spangles (large sequins) into the center.

stitch on spangles

Finally, stitch the bead in the center. The flower is done! Now to add the stem…

Poke the wire stem between the layers, and fold to the back. Twist tight to secure.

bead and wire stem

For a more finished look, cover the stem with floral tape.

It is that easy! I’m sharing more fun flower posts all week long, be sure to check them out!

Craft Flower Bouquet

Craft Flower Bouquet

Remember a couple weeks ago when I shared the Giant Craft Flower Bouquet? It was for a contest that I was participating in, where the winner got $1,000!! Sweet, right? Well, I lost. Which, actually, is fine. I find that contests are more fun when I make something I love, and have fun making it. Then, even if I don’t get the prize, I’ve already won! And this week, I’m making all of YOU big winners too! Because I’m sharing how I made all the different flowers and greenery in the bouquet!

Craft Flower Bouquet Close-up

That’s right – every day I’ll be sharing a couple different flower tutorials. Over a dozen. All week long. It is going to be awesome.

Sweet Treats for Teacher Appreciation

Today is the last day of our Craft Lightning Teacher Appreciation Week! All week long, Angie from the Country Chic Cottage and I have been sharing fast and easy Teacher Appreciation gift ideas! Each morning we share a new fast craft, and each evening we do a roundup of fast Teacher Appreciation Gift ideas from our crafty friends around blogland! If you’ve missed any of the roundups, go catch day 1, day 2, day 3, and day 4. You’ll have to come back later tonight for the day 5 roundup!

Today’s project is super easy. We love baking chocolate chip cookies at our house. My boys are real cookie monsters! So everyone loves it when I break out the chocolate chips! If you have a special cookie or treat that you love to make, just bake that instead.

To wrap up your sweet treats you need:
Your treat of choice
Large plastic bag (I used a Gallon size)
Scissors
Ribbon
Free Teacher Appreciation Gift Tag Printable
Markers/crayons
Hole punch

Cut the zipper top off of your plastic bag. Stack the treats in one corner, then gather the rest of the bag. Tie the ribbon in place, add the tag (which you can color if you like), and tie another knot.

It can be tricky to get a bow to look “just right”, so I like to omit the bow, and just cut the ends of the ribbon with V-shaped notches. Looks fancy, and so easy!

Teacher Appreciation School Supplies

All week long, Angie from The Country Chic Cottage and I are sharing fast and easy Teacher Appreciation Gift Ideas for Craft Lightning Week. Every Morning, we share a simple craft you can make for Teacher Appreciation, then every evening we do a roundup of teacher appreciation gift ideas from our bloggy friends that are joining in each day!

Today, I’m wrapping up some school supplies as a Teacher Appreciation Gift. You don’t have to be crafty at all to do this. School supplies are always a great gift for any teacher, especially later in the year. At this point, crayons are broken, markers have been left without their caps, and eve school supplies that have been properly cared for are beginning to show their wear. Our school, like many schools, has dry-erase boards at the front of the classroom instead of chalkboards, so I bought a new set of dry-erase markers… but you could use any school supply, or basket full of school supplies if you want! Here is how I whipped this together…

Make Teacher Appreciation School SuppliesYou need:
Teacher Appreciation Printable Label
School Supplies (I used dry-erase markers)
Markers (for coloring label)
Scissors
Hole Punch
Ribbon

Color and cut out your label, you can have your child do the coloring and cutting, if you like. Then punch a hole at the top.

Thread the ribbon through the hole, and tie onto the markers.

Tie up Teacher Appreciation School Supplies

That’s it! Super Simple!

Make sure to come back tonight for a great round up of more 15 minute or less Teacher Appreciation gift ideas, and I’ll have another sweet idea for you tomorrow!

For all those sweet teachers, I came up with this fun mason jar filled with candy – but not just any candy – 100 Grand bars. I fit 10 of the 100 grand bars into the jar. Any math teacher will tell you that 10 x 100,000 = 1 million. This is a treat that any teacher will love… especially a math teacher!
