Outdoor Ornaments with Frog Tape

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of FrogTape provided by ShurTech Brands, LLC for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Outdoor Christmas Ornaments

I'm going to admit that we're not putting lights on the outside of our house this year… we have them from years past… but spending half a day in the cold to get all the lights up, and later pulling them all down, just isn't going to happen this year. I still want to add some festive decor to the outside of the house, I I thought these fun ornaments, made out of brick pavers, would be perfect. And with this new FrogTape Textured Surface, it is easy to get crisp lines on my brick ornaments!

Textured Surface Frog Tape

I started with these brick pavers from the hardware store. Bricks have such an uneven surface that trying to get crisp lines is nearly impossible! But this newFrogTape Textured Surface solves that problem.

Bricks for Ornaments

I like to do crafts on this site that take 30 minutes or less. Usually, those projects can be done in one sitting. You can whip up one of these ornaments in 30 minutes… but that 30 minutes will be broken up into a few sittings.

I started by painting a base color on the bricks. Then I taped off the stripes with the Frog Tape.

Tape off stripes with Frog Tape

I also stuck together several pieces of Frog Tape to cut a design.

Pieces of Frog Tape Together

I cut a wonky star out of the pieces of Frog Tape stuck together. You can cut the star out of the inside of the tape, but I wanted to feather out the paint around the star.

Wonky Star on Ornament

The directions are right on the package, but basically I pressed down the edges with a wet paper towel to activate the glue. Then I used the adhesive from the package to seal down the edges completely.

Seal with Frog Tape Glue

Once the glue set for 15 minutes, I painted in the stripes.

Paint in Stripes

After the paint dried, I peeled back the Frog Tape and found beautiful, crisp lines!

Peel Back Frog Tape

Then I put them out on the porch!

I'm seriously amazed at how well theFrogTape Textured Surface worked on the very textured bricks. This would be great for taping off and painting a "Barn Quilt" on my brick wall, or painting stripes on my textured walls… so many ways that this Frog Tape can come in handy!

Believe Glitter Canvas

Holiday Glitter CanvasI was sent some amazing Michaels Recollections glitter to craft with. Lots and lots of glitter. And I don’t know about you, but I think the holidays are the perfect time to add some sparkle. Christmas to me is all about snowflakes and magic and the holiday spirit… and glitter helps to capture all of those. And Michaels Recollections glitter is a super inexpensive way to add some sparkle to the holidays, since it starts at $3.99.

To the glitter I was sent, I added a canvas (also available at Michaels), a paintbrush, and some ModPodge.

Michaels glitterAs you can see, the Michaels Reccolections glitter comes in all kinds of colors and textures, I used fine glitter for this project but that tinsel looks fun for an ornament I have in mind. You can purchase the glitter individually, or in packaged sets if you want some fun variety.

With a pencil, I lightly wrote “Believe” on my canvas. I think this one word is my mantra for December… I believe in Santa, in miracles, in the magic of the season… and that I can accomplish my to-do list by December 25th.

Then I went over my pencil lines with a brush heavily laden with Mod Podge.

Quickly, before the Mod Podge dried too much, I sprinkled white glitter over the top of my letters, and the blue over the bottom of my letters.

first round of glitterUnable to wait, I shook the glitter off the page and ended up with this. Where the Mod Podge had dried, no glitter stayed. Which actually looks super cool. But wasn’t quite what I was after.

So I filled in the letters with more Mod Podge…

add in more mod podge

And added another layer of glitter.

second round of glitter

I shook that glitter off… and had exactly what I was looking for!

Believe Glitter Canvas

The Michaels Recollections Glitter is great for a variety of craft projects… this canvas is just a jumping-off point. All kinds of decor, ornaments, and even gift wrap could benefit from a little sparkle this holiday!

Light-up Snowglobe in a Mason Jar

Mason jar lighted tree

Sometimes the perfect craft just falls in your lap… or into your cart. I was shopping at the hardware store, and saw a mini light-up tree with the holiday displays. I thought it would be perfect to fit into a mason jar. Just a few days later, I found Ball’s new smooth mason jars. And just like that – my light up snow globe idea came to life.

supplies for mason jar treeSupplies:
Smooth sided mason Jar
Mini light up tree (from the holiday decor display) & batteries
Fake Snow
Glue

Open up the jar and make sure that the tree fits. My tree’s base just barely didn’t fit into the neck of the jar.

check fit of tree

Pour a little of the fake snow into the jar.

fill jar with snow

Put the tree back in place. You can add some glue to hold it.

Feed the battery box through the big hole in the center of the metal ring, then feed the ring down the wire. Screw the ring of the lid on, and glue in place. My lid didn’t screw on very well because of the size of the tree base, so I just added extra glue.

After the glue dries and you’ve inserted your batteries, you’re all set with some charming holiday decor… in a jar!

Easy Santa Beard

I found this tutorial months ago, and knew I wanted to share it. Really – MONTHS ago. How awesome is this fun DIY Santa Beard? Super simple to make, there is even a paper pattern for you to follow as you make it. I can see making them for the whole family – wouldn’t this make an awesome Christmas card? A family photo of red shirts and Santa beards! You’ll have to figure out how to adjust it to fit the family dog. Oh – and be sure to send a card my way, I’d love to see it!

This will surely be a favorite Christmas decoration that the whole family will look forward to taking out of the decorations box year after year!

You should stop what you’re doing RIGHT NOW to make this. But if for some reason you can’t do that, make sure to pin it. But always pin from the original source.

DIY Winter Hat Ornament

Do you ever come across a tutorial and find something so absolutely amazing that you simultaneously squee in delight and get jealous that you didn’t design it yourself? That is totally what happened when I saw this tutorial for a winter hat ornament. These little hats are super simple to make, require only a few supplies, and even the kids can make them! Oh – and they don’t require you know how to knit or crochet at all. Which is amazing for me because I’m a yarn-challenged crafter. I love yarn, but I can’t knit, and I can’t crochet. Not that I haven’t tried. That particular crafty gene got left off of this branch of the family tree, I suppose. But these little hat ornaments are totally up my alley. I can’t wait to whip them up!
